About the Music
Eric Lindley's music is a masterful and magical concoction of guitar, other sounds, electronics, and sass. He might sound like: Will Oldham, Jeff Mangum, Elliott Smith.
About Eric
Eric started making music when you were in short pants—you weren't
young; it was just warm at the time—an hasn't stopped to eat, sleep,
or question singing in a hollow, inaudible tenor ever since. He was
born into the world by a half-eaten sandwich in Fresno, CA, but was
transported midway through kindergarten by unknown powers (in that way
where you move before you're sure of what location is) to Orange
County, where he lived in the rain-carved hollow of a high stack of
Mercedes'.
He began to sing and everything in middle school, starting-and-finishing-in-the-same-moment several punk-ish bands. ,began writing music after his Music Theory class of placement most advanced. ,began writing in earnest at Dartmouth College, songs and textures that were not for everyone. He studied Charles Dodge and Larry Polansky, in a serious way.
He graduated in Music and Physics (what?! physics!!?) and came here to Calarts to study with James Tenney, also in a serious way. Now he's working on things were he instructs people what to do (art, music) that deal with games, simulation, cognition, and the limitations of all bodies. He's studying with Sara Roberts and Tom Leeser; it's great!
He's also queer as all hell, though you couldn't tell even by knowing him forever.
